Oman’s O! Millionaire green initiative highlights importance of clean air to mark World Pneumonia Day

Oman’s O! Millionaire green initiative

Muscat: To raise awareness and shed light on the potentially life-threatening lung infection, Oman’s green initiative O! Millionaire marked World Pneumonia Day by dedicating a slot on its live show to share information about the disease.

This campaign aimed to reach people and sensitize them to the seriousness of pneumonia, one of the major causes of mortality among infectious diseases across the world.

Studies indicate that climate changes are already affecting human health, in part by altering the epidemiology of climate-sensitive pathogens. Research also suggests that climate change may alter the incidence and severity of respiratory infections by affecting host immune responses. Young children and older adults appear to be particularly vulnerable to rapid fluctuations in ambient temperature. It was found that an increase in the incidence of childhood pneumonia has been associated with sharp temperature drops from one day to the next.

Experts concur that to stop the impacts of climate change, the world needs to cut CO2 emissions by 45 percent from 2010 levels by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. O! Millionaire has been working hard on that front with a determined plan in place.

A spokesperson for O! Millionaire said, “While pneumonia is undoubtedly a risky respiratory health infection it can also become a big problem due to air pollution and climate change. We took up the task of creating awareness about the disease since the O! Millionaire initiative highlights the importance of clean air, the risks of pollution, and the dangers of emissions. Oasis Park’s vision is to help reduce the current emission levels in Oman in line with the country’s aim to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. As it is well known over the years, Oasis Park will be home to nearly 60 million different trees and will significantly add to CO2 emission reduction which will lead to clean air.”

About O! Millionaire

The environmental initiative intends to create the Middle East’s largest green park through sales of Green Certificates – the Oasis Park in Oman which aims to be a beacon of hope for a sustainable future. Eco-friendly initiative O! Millionaire aspires to fulfill the goal of the preservation of Oman’s natural environment through an efficient, socially responsible, and ethical tree-planting programme.

About Oasis Park

Oasis Park in the Ash-Sharqiyah region of Oman is planned for a total area of 1,200 square kilometers that will be created as a sustainable, self-contained ecosystem. The planned area will provide space for up to 60 million different trees, which will be planted over the next years and decades and thus contribute significantly to the goal of reducing global CO2 emissions. According to calculations, this unique green lung of Oman will be able to bind up to 1.4 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere each year. The first phase of the project will designate 18 square kilometers, which will include forestry, the integration of initial agricultural projects, and the necessary infrastructure.

About the Green Certificate

A Green Certificate, which participants can purchase worldwide to support O! Millionaire’s green initiative known as Oasis Park, entitles them to an entry for a draw boasting a Grand Prize valued over OMR 6,400,000. The certificate provides participants two chances to win – one through a raffle draw that pays out one winner OMR 10,000 every week, and another through a "grand draw" that offers prizes valued at more than OMR 6,400,000. Also, participants can “Secure the Grand Prize” given that the prize is equally divided should there be more than one grand prize winner.

In addition, participants also have the option to “Double the Grand Prize”- where OMR 6,400,000 could turn into OMR 12,800,000; while the second prize is also equally divided between all second prize winners who match six (6) out of seven (7). The draw is held every Thursday at 8 pm; should no Grand Prize winner be selected in the weekly draw, a sum of OMR 50,000 will be added to the prize sum every week.

The brains behind this concept have made it simple for everyone to be a part of this initiative, with more information available at www.omillionaire.com. Green Certificates worth OMR 2.5 are available for purchase through the website.
