Have you ever thought about what you would do if you ever found yourself in a crazy fight or flight situation? Now, if you are a good fighter and love the game, all you might need is a good personal injury lawyer to handle things after the fight.
But, we recommend staying out of legal trouble and avoiding a fight altogether – as any normal civilized human would do. We are talking about situations that include walking down to the train station or if some random dude challenges you at school and how you might want to verbally diffuse the fight or avoid it completely.
Here are three ways to avoid a fight:
Become Aware of Your Surroundings
Yes, you might have heard about this before, but you have to thoroughly understand what this means. Suppose that you are walking down the train station and you know that someone is behind you, in front of you, or to your side.
Instead of having your music blasting at a high volume and being totally oblivious of your surroundings, you will want to be able to hear your surroundings. You will want to know the exit strategies no matter where you are.
A great way to do this is that if you are at a train station, don’t stand in the corner but stand with your back to the pillar. If you stand in the corner and someone approaches you, you will have no place to escape to or avoid a punch that might require you to undergo eye surgery.
Besides, if you stand with your back against the pillar and someone comes up to you, you step out to the side, and you have an exit right there. Also, with your back against the pillar, you will know that no one can sneak up behind you while you can keep scanning your surroundings for any potential threat.
Avoid Eye Contact
Another thing you might want to be aware of while dealing with a potential bully is that you should avoid making eye contact. However, this doesn’t mean that you should look down, as this can make you appear very vulnerable and weak.
By looking down, you appear like an easy target. However, if you stand tall with a good posture with your eyes looking forward – directly past the potential threat, you appear confident, and the potential bully is more likely to avoid you.
Just make sure that you are not looking at them but directly past them. The thing about potential bullies is that they almost wait for you to make eye contact and get the chance to say – what are you looking at.
Verbal Diffusion
If someone is bullying you at school, you can diffuse a fight by saying confidently that you think that you guys don’t have to be friends, but you don’t want to fight them. Don’t look scared or intimidated while saying this – say this as confidently as possible without threatening them.
Confidence and a steady voice is the key to diffusing a fight verbally.
