Telescope Retractable Dog Leash with ABS Plastic Covering

Dog Leash

When purchasing a Dog Leash, the size of your dog and the people handling him should be taken into consideration. I have seen too many people using the wrong leash when walking their dogs. Walking a dog with the wrong length and width dog leash will make the walk uncomfortable for your dog. It could also be a safety issue for both you and your dog. A taller person walking a medium-sized dog should use a long dog leash so the leash will have enough slack to allow your dog room to enjoy the walk and short enough to keep him safe. A shorter person walking a large dog should use a short dog leash. A good example for medium dogs, between thirty and fifty pounds, being walked by a tall person, should use a leash that is 6 feet by 3/4 inch wide. Dogs under thirty pounds should use a 1/2 inch leash, while dogs over fifty pounds should use a 1-inch dog leash.

Nylon leashes are one of the most common types of the leash and one of the strongest. If you have a dog that pulls, the nylon leash may be a bit uncomfortable. Nylon leashes are better with puppies because they are more difficult for them to chew through. Nylon leashes come in a variety of patterns.

One leash that seems to be extremely popular is the retractable leash. As a trainer, it is not one of my favorites. I have seen many dogs get into trouble because they were able to wander away from the owner. In my opinion, these types of leashes can be unsafe if you are not extremely diligent and watching your dog’s body language at all times.

Another common leash is the cotton leash. Some people prefer cotton leashes because they are more comfortable, cost a bit less, and are durable. Cotton dog leashes are typically available in any pet store and come in several different colors.

Leather leashes are a more expensive choice but are great for training. When buying a leather leash, make both ends are double stitched as well as riveted. This enhances the strength of the leash.

One of the least popular leashes is the chain leash. While the chain leash is the strongest leash you can buy, it is the least comfortable leash I have used. They do have the advantage of preventing your dog from chewing or mouthing the leash, but as I said, they are extremely uncomfortable.
