The Yummiest Dairy Queen Blizzard Flavors

Dairy Queen Blizzard Flavors

Ice cream is always a treat, and not just for the summer. That may explain the enduring popularity of the Dairy Queen Blizzard. Except that technically, a Blizzard isn’t really ice cream at all. That’s according to the FDA.

But for most of us, it’s close enough. In fact, in some ways a Blizzard may be better than your ordinary ice cream.

It all depends on the flavor, though. And while we all have our personal preferences, check out the flavors that many consider the best among all the Blizzard flavors:

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

You have your standard vanilla soft serve ice cream as the base, and then you add ribbons of chocolate fudge along with delicious balls of cookie dough ice cream. The mix is basically perfect, although it actually showcases the fudge despite the name. Close your eyes as you enjoy this, and it’ll remind you of a hot fudge sundae.

This is another perennial fan favorite, and it is still part of the Dairy Queen menu (last time we checked). You really ought to get this every now and then, as you’ll hate yourself if it ever disappears from the menu.

M&M’s Milk Chocolate Candies

There was actually a time when Dairy Queen workers had to crush the M&Ms by hand, just for the Blizzards. And even the folks at M&M’s insisted that they couldn’t sell broken candy bars (like their Mars Bars). Nowadays, of course, Dairy Queen can get their prechopped ingredients for their Blizzards.

But the pre-chopping of the M&Ms isn’t actually consistent, as sometimes you get intact bits. That’s not a bad thing, as the uncertainty is part of the fun. What you do get is a consistently even spread of the M&M bits, so that you get to enjoy the chocolate candies with each bite.

Royal New York Cheesecake Blizzard

Yes, the name indicates how it also offers the genuine flavors of New York cheesecake, which we all know is tasty. The “Royal” in the name was due to how this was released in 2016, to commemorate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth. And of course, it became a sensation on social media right away, although it’s hard to guess how much of that was due to the royal connection.

For most people, it’s mainly due to the strawberry center core. All in all, you have a terrific combo here, with the flavors of the cheesecake, the crunchy graham crackers, the sweet strawberry, and the vanilla soft serve.

Heath Blizzard

Admittedly, not everyone likes the Heath Bars from the Hershey company. It’s not so and that you’d refuse to eat it, but you probably would prefer other chocolate bars. But the toffee content sure makes a delightful mix when you have bits of the Heath Bar as toppings for your Blizzard. With the almonds, you also get a nice crunch.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup

This is still part of the lineup, and it’s listed as one of the “Candy Classics”. And it’s not so surprising, given how so many of us love the taste of Reese’s peanut butter.

Here, you have chunks of different sizes with the chocolate and peanut butter. That means each bite comes with a slightly different flavor, although the basic taste never changes. It’s also quite rich in taste, and a large cup may be more suitable for sharing. So, order this one when you’re on a (cheap) romantic date.

Oreo Cookie Blizzard

You can enjoy an Oreo Blizzard for $3.74, but lots of people would pay more to enjoy this treat. It’s always nice that it’s part of the permanent menu, so that you can always enjoy it whenever you want.

It has been a perennial fan favorite, despite its simplicity. You have the scrumptious vanilla soft serve ice cream at the base, and then you have the chocolate Oreo cookies complete with the creamy center.

It makes a different that the Oreo cookie crumbles aren’t just spread over the top of the ice cream. Instead, it’s blended in nicely. That’s actually why the cookie crumbles don’t turn soggy and hold firm nicely. It’s a classic for a reason.

Salted Caramel Truffle Blizzard

Some may see this as a crazy combination of flavors that may seem a bit to overindulgent. But there’s not wrong with indulging one’s self, especially when a Blizzard is concerned.

Here, you get salted caramel truffles, along with toffee, fudge, and chocolate chunks. The whole combo works its bit of magic, so that afterwards, you look forward to your next visit to Dairy Queen.

Final Words

Just keep in mind that Dairy Queen can be a bit arbitrary when it comes to the availability of their flavors. Sometimes, you’d think that a flavor like the Slated Caramel Truffle would always be there, and then you discover that your local Dairy Queen no longer serves it. The good news is that you’ll always find a yummy alternative to your current favorites. Check out this list for those alternatives, and you won’t be sorry!
